Five of the best places to see Christmas lights in Central London

Posted on Wednesday, December 12, 2018

There’s nothing quite like Christmas in London. And as the days get shorter the city comes alive in all its sparking glory. Here are five essential light displays you won’t want to miss.

1 Oxford Street

Brave the crowds for this iconic London spectacle. Now in its 59th year, Oxford Street’s Christmas lights include a mega 1,778 decorations and 750,000 LED lightbulbs. Inspired by falling snowflakes, the traditional white display features purple baubles too this year.

2 London Zoo

If you’re thinking Christmas lights, London Zoo might not immediately spring to mind. But this year the zoo features an amazing illuminated trail along a one-mile path. Walk it and be dazzled by hundreds of thousands of decorations including animal sculptures and light tunnels at the penguin pool. Not sure what the furry friends will make of it all though!

3 Marylebone Village

The annual Marylebone switch on is a big event in the local calendar. This year Who singer, Roger Daltrey did the honours on 14 November, but you can see the splendid display until after Christmas. Pop along and you’ll also be treated to ‘A Merry Marylebone Christmas’ - six weeks of festive events and promotions from local shops and restaurants.

4 Bond Street

Don’t miss this exclusive London street, strutting like a Peacock with its fabulous blue, feather-inspired display.

5 Carnaby Street

Queen fans should make Carnaby Street’s lights a Christmas must. These stunning lights incorporate the unforgettable lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody - written in the sky in neon. Catch the display until 4 January.
